Second show due to incredible demand!
“Two years ago I played a show round the corner which was to be the final outing for the songs from my first three albums. The plan was to move onto new musical ventures or, maybe, to leave music behind entirely. Two weeks after that show, the UK went into lockdown.
In the time since, I’ve started and abandoned a few projects, some working in a band, some with collaborators under my direction, but I’ve kept coming back to the simplicity of me and a guitar. For the most part because it’s the easiest way to write songs when trapped in the house! Hence my new songs are in that format – stripped back and raw.
As for the older material, I’ve been deeply touched by the messages I’ve received in lockdown from people who have said that my music has helped them through dark times or, from people who had discovered it for the first time, after a series of listening parties over Twitter with Tim Burgess or my lockdown covers series. Spectres, in particular, has a life far beyond what I would have guessed when I wrote it and I’m incredibly proud of how it connects with people to this day.
So this show will bring the old and new together. It seems wrong to not play the older stuff now, because I know it’s what people want to hear, And, after the last two years, anything that brings us together can only be a good thing.
See you soon.
